We’ve just stepped into a new year which means exciting times ahead and the health and wellness industry is on the rise. With that being said there is a lot of fish in this big pond and getting noticed can be a bit of a struggle when trying to pull in new clients amongst the competition.
Despite the title of this post it’s important to put your own spin on the examples shown here rather than trying to replicate them. See them as inspiration to design a logo that accurately represents you and your business.
There are some go-to elements/symbols that represent generic nutrition businesses ie: Apples, Scales, Leaves, Trees, Knife and forks & Measuring tape etc.
The truth is you can represent your logo using the above elements by putting your spin on it.
If you are your business, then a great way to showcase your personality is to use a handwritten script to make your logo feel more personable. Playing with your name in unique ways and adding your tagline can help you stand out in 2020. Just like I designed for Julia Culis – Nutritionist and food blogger. She cooks up really healthy recipes that are delicious and nutritious hence the tagline ‘Food Whipped Into Shape.’
One trend that is on the rise is animated logo’s. It adds a new layer of personality to a brand and is a great way of introducing your logo. Last year I animated my client Flutter’s logo to represent a butterfly to really showcase the delicateness and beauty of the brand. This is a great way for nutritionists to really showcase the transition into leading a healthier lifestyle. There’s so much fun to be had here.
Everyone loves a good doodle; I find myself doing it all the time . A big trend for 2020 is hand-drawn logos with character. Great news if you’re a doodler like me! This is an excellent opportunity to add texture and personality to your identity. Something that resembles a sketched look adds quirkiness and innocence to your logo.
One of the biggest trends I’ve noticed in the health, fitness & wellness industry is businesses positioning themselves as a luxury lifestyle brand. This falls in line with rising of Athleisure fashion; made popular by social media influencers. The angle positions them alongside their audience’s desire to lead a healthy lifestyle in style whilst also feeling part of a tribe (JD Sports play to the ‘tribe’ aspect of sports and fashion with their campaign ‘I Am JD’).
There is a certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to saying they are on their way to see their nutritionist dressed in their luxe leggings having come from the gym, drinking water from their status symbol ‘Swell‘ water bottle. Perceiving health as a luxury and status many aspire to is trending. If don’t act now you could be left in the dust by your competitors.
Balance is key when it comes to logo design and less is always most defiantly more when designing for health & wellness. Replicate that through your brand identity and you’re golden.
I’d like to assume your pretty ambitious and understand the importance of good logo design and that you’re looking to shake up the nutrition world and put ‘your’ message out there. I understand that many startups don’t always have the funds to pay for a Graphic Designer to design them a bespoke logo but I always encourage entrepreneurs to consider making it part of their setup cost. Recognize it as an investment into your own identity in the market and standing out.
If you're going to spend the time and money on branding get right from the start, trust me it will save you both time and money in the long run.
I’m going to be honest right from the get-go, but your business is worth more than the £50 (or free) logo you bought from Creative Market, Canva or Wix logo maker. I usually see these types of logos when people approach me to ‘fix‘ their logo only after a couple of months. The truth is I don’t ‘fix’ them I scrap them.
But if you do decide to go the DIY route there are a few trends worth taking inspiration from in branding your nutrition business in 2020.
